URBAN PRAYERS – THE REINVENTION OF RELIGION IN THE CITY

A film about the connection between urban living and spiritual faith, focusing on the cities of Lagos, Istanbul and Berlin.

New religious movements are flourishing, globally and across all religions. They are increasingly gaining ground in the major cities. For a long time cities were considered to be largely religion-free zones. But this assumption is no longer tenable. Religion is being reinvented in the city. Being a believer is no longer old-fashioned and conservative. Being a believer is now hip; going to church on Sunday or to the mosque or temple is standard practice. The middle classes, in particular, academics as well as freelance professionals and creatives, are flocking to the new churches. This film documents the newly flourishing connection between urban living and religious faith, focusing on the cities of Lagos, Istanbul and Berlin.
