CHRISTO AND JEANNE-CLAUDE UNWRAPPED
Together, the two have created one of the most visually breathtaking artistic works of our time since the 1960s with spectacular wrapping projects: legendary artist couple Christo and Jeanne-Claude.
This documentary brings the legendary artist couple Christo and Jeanne-Claude to life once again with the help of extensive archive material. Together, the two have created one of the most visually breathtaking artistic works of our time since the 1960s with spectacular wrapping projects. Their art is deliberately public and accessible to all free of charge; it is intended to be a common experience. In Germany, the artist couple became popular especially through the wrapping of the Reichstag building in Berlin in 1995. It is not commerce or the pursuit of profit that drives Christo and Jeanne-Claude; their art projects are exceptional cases of perfect convergence of art and life, borne of sheer beauty. The freedom of art as a vision to create utopia. The film tells how the two succeeded since the 1960s to break through the boundaries of the art business and to inspire people across all social classes for their breathtaking wrapping actions, up to the wrapped Arc de Triomphe in Paris in September 2021. For decades always at the side of Christo & Jeanne-Claude: the photographer Wolfgang Volz, who has documented all projects of the artist couple since 1971.
